Boston Mills Historic District, Historic district in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio.
Boston Mills Historic District is a historic area within Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio, made up of several structures in Greek Revival style from the 1800s and early 1900s. The site gathers a former mill, a warehouse, a boat yard, and a hotel, all of which once formed the center of local commercial life.
The area grew after the Ohio and Erie Canal opened in 1827 and brought new trade routes through the valley. Industries like milling and boat building took hold and shaped the character of the place for several decades.
The name comes from settlers who arrived from Boston and shaped the early character of the area. Walking through the grounds today, you can see how the buildings changed over time, from the canal period to the early 1900s.
The former Boston Company Store now serves as a visitor center and is a good place to start before walking around the grounds. The paths between the buildings are easy to follow on foot, and no special preparation is needed for a visit.
Some of the houses from the early 1900s were built using colored concrete block, a material that was new and affordable at the time. The decorative patterns made from these blocks are still visible on the facades and easy to spot during a walk through the site.
