Breezedale, Historic estate in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, US

Breezedale is a historic mansion on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania that displays Renaissance Revival architectural features. The two-and-a-half-story brick structure features decorative moldings and includes several additions that complement the main house.

The estate was built between 1865 and 1868 by businessman John Sutton and later became the home of John Pratt Elkin, who served on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Its historical importance was recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The building serves as an alumni center for the university, where graduates gather and maintain their connection to the institution. You can see how a historic mansion has been repurposed to bring people together around shared memories and experiences.

The estate is located on the university campus and is accessible through regular campus pathways. The best way to view its exterior and architectural details is to walk around the grounds, where you can observe the decorative elements and overall structure from outside.

The building is topped by a distinctive cupola, which along with a classical portico stands out as one of its most recognizable features. These architectural elements were key to its recognition as a historic landmark.
