Central Ridgewood Historic District
Central Ridgewood Historic District, Historic district in Ridgewood, Queens, United States.
The district contains 990 brick row houses with rounded bay front facades, constructed with Kreischer brick in various shades of color and decorative stonework.
Between 1906 and World War I, German-American builders developed this residential area, transforming former farmland into organized rows of two-story brick dwellings.
The architectural firm Louis Berger & Company designed thousands of buildings in Renaissance Revival and Romanesque Revival styles throughout the Ridgewood-Bushwick neighborhood.
The district spans 56 acres between Fresh Pond Road and several avenues, including Putnam, Forest, Catalpa, and Onderdonk, with accessible public transportation options.
Each building features load-bearing masonry walls constructed from Staten Island Kreischer bricks, displaying cast-stone lintels, iron fences, and pressed metal cornices.
