Central Ridgewood Historic District
Central Ridgewood Historic District, Historic district in Ridgewood, Queens, United States.
Central Ridgewood Historic District is a residential area with nearly 1000 brick row houses arranged between different streets and avenues. The homes feature curved bay fronts and decorative stonework in various brick colors.
This area developed between 1906 and World War I when German-American builders transformed former farmland into ordered rows of homes. That rapid transition from open land to dense residential neighborhoods shaped the district permanently.
The buildings here show Renaissance Revival and Romanesque Revival styles that shaped how people lived in this neighborhood. These design choices became a marker of community identity as families built their homes generation after generation.
The area is easy to reach by public transit and has many pathways for walking through. When you explore on foot, you will find the streets laid out in a regular pattern that is simple to navigate.
Every house here was built with bricks made at a specific factory on Staten Island in varying shades of color. Those special bricks give each block its own character and reveal the craftsmanship of the original builders.
