Courtyard Nashville Downtown, Historic building in Nashville, Tennessee

The Courtyard Nashville Downtown is a hotel located in a building constructed in 1904 that was originally the First National Bank Building. The structure displays Neo-Classical architecture with tall columns and detailed stone work, standing twelve stories tall at approximately 168 feet (51 meters) high.

The building opened in 1904 as Nashville's first major skyscraper and served as the city's banking center for decades. Following occupancy by various financial firms through the 1980s, it underwent careful restoration in 1997 to become the hotel visitors see today.

The building was originally a bank, and you can still see its name lettered on the exterior walls today. This transformation shows how Nashville preserves its business heritage while welcoming visitors into spaces shaped by the city's financial past.

The hotel sits in downtown and provides easy walking access to nearby shops, restaurants, and theaters throughout the area. This central location makes it simple to explore local attractions on foot and experience the neighborhood's history firsthand.

The building received a twelve-story expansion in 1936 complete with air conditioning, which was a remarkable technical achievement for that era. This early installation demonstrates Nashville's steps toward modern comfort even during the Great Depression.
