Fifth Third Center, Postmodern skyscraper in Nashville, Tennessee.
Fifth Third Center is a tall office building in Nashville with 31 floors that rise approximately 490 feet above the street. Its light-colored exterior features distinctive geometric patterns typical of postmodern design from the 1980s.
The building opened in 1986 as the headquarters for Third National Corporation. It changed names twice following acquisitions by SunTrust and then Fifth Third Bank.
The location previously housed the First Masonic Hall from 1818, which served as a hospital supply store during the American Civil War.
The building is easy to spot from the street due to its height and distinctive design, serving as office space for various companies. Public access is generally limited to the lobby area unless you have business inside.
This building held the title of tallest structure in Tennessee for eight years until the BellSouth Building surpassed it in 1994. That shift marked a changing point in Nashville's downtown skyline.
