Cornish Colony Museum, Art museum in Windsor, Vermont, United States
The Cornish Colony Museum was an art museum in Windsor housed in a former firehouse building that displayed artworks and documents related to the regional art movement. The museum presented materials documenting the work of artists from the Cornish Art Colony.
The museum was founded in 1998 and began operations in Mastlands, a 19th-century house in Cornish, before relocating to Windsor in 2005. Following operational difficulties and tax status complications, the museum ceased activities in 2010.
The museum displayed works by artists connected to the regional art movement and regularly showed both historical and contemporary pieces from the area. Visitors could see how local artists shaped the art scene in the region.
The museum is no longer open to the public as it closed in 2010 and is no longer operational. The collection was later dispersed through local auctions, so the artworks are now found in various locations.
Documents about the museum's founding and operations are now preserved in the archives of nearby Dartmouth College and are accessible for research. These records offer insights into the institution's history and the regional art scene.
