The Convocation Center is a large multipurpose hall on Ohio University's campus in Athens, Ohio, with a capacity of more than 13,000 people. The building features a shiny wooden floor and hosts basketball games, volleyball and wrestling matches, concerts, and university ceremonies such as graduation events.
The building opened in spring 1968 and was designed by the architecture firm Brubaker and Brandt. Since its opening, it has undergone numerous renovations, including lighting and video screen improvements in the late 1990s.
The building is called The Convo by students and fans. The O-Zone is a special seating area where the most enthusiastic students gather to cheer loudly, and the university band plays music to energize the crowd during games.
The center is located on Richland Avenue next to green spaces and other university buildings. Access is straightforward with clear signage and campus maps available, and parking is available nearby for visitors.
The interior features a two-layer maple wood floor that creates a superior playing surface. The Hardwood House is a small bar area with framed photos of past teams and important moments, where fans gather to discuss games and share memories.
