Dodge Site, Archaeological site in Wood County, Ohio, United States.
Dodge Site is an archaeological site north of Bowling Green that protects about 2.2 acres of land. The location contains multiple layers of settlement remains from different periods of occupation by Native American communities.
The site was first inhabited as a Middle Woodland village with a cemetery, then occupied again around 1300 by an Upper Mississippian community. These two distinct periods of settlement are preserved in the layers beneath the surface.
The site preserves ceramic vessels and stone tools that reveal how early inhabitants lived and worked. These objects show the daily routines and craft skills of communities that occupied the land over many centuries.
The site is managed by the Archaeological Conservancy and allows access for research and visitation. Plan time to explore the grounds while respecting the boundaries of the protected area.
The ground here shows unusually clear layers of soil that separate materials from different time periods. This clarity helps researchers date findings precisely and compare the two settlement phases.
