The land began as a country club before being converted to a military base during World War I. It became a public park in 1969 and was named after President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The park holds the Nassau County September 11th Memorial featuring two steel towers and pieces of wreckage from the World Trade Center. Visitors come to this site to pay respects to those lost.
