Bezau

Bezau is a municipality in the Bregenzerwald region of Vorarlberg, situated at about 650 meters elevation surrounded by mountain peaks and dense forests. The valley is characterized by green slopes and reflects the typical mountain landscape of Vorarlberg.

The settlement first appears in records in 1249 as Baezenowe and became a parish in 1497. In 1806 it was established as a district court for the entire Bregenzerwald region.

The Heimatmuseum in a traditional wooden building displays how people here worked and lived in the past. Exhibits document farming, crafts, and local ways of life across different periods.

The Friday market from June to October brings together local producers offering dairy products, meats, seasonal vegetables, and handcrafted goods. This regular market is a good place to discover regional specialties and meet local makers.

The Wälderbähnle, a narrow-gauge railway, connects Bezau today to Bersbuch-Andelsbuch and uses parts of the historic line that once ran all the way to Bregenz until 1983. This heritage railway is a popular outing for visitors and locals.
