Verpeilhütte, Mountain hut in Kaunertal, Austria
Verpeilhütte is a mountain hut located at 2025 meters elevation in the Kaunertal valley of the Ötztal Alps. The building sits among stone peaks and ancient stone pine trees, serving as a shelter and resting place for hikers and climbers passing through the area.
The hut was founded in 1906 by the Frankfurt section of the German Alpine Club to support mountaineers exploring the Tyrolean region. It has operated continuously as a mountain shelter and rest point for climbers since its establishment.
The mountain hut maintains traditional Alpine hospitality by serving regional Tyrolean dishes and maintaining communal sleeping arrangements for mountaineers.
Visitors can reach the hut by driving to the Verpeilalm parking area and hiking a trail of about 1.7 kilometers that takes roughly 45 minutes. The path is accessible for hikers with basic mountain experience and offers a steady climb through alpine terrain.
The hut provides 41 sleeping places distributed across different rooms, including a special winter room that accommodates four people during cold months. This dedicated space allows the shelter to remain functional year-round even in harsh Alpine conditions.
