Rudolf-Bednar-Park, Public park in Leopoldstadt district, Vienna, Austria.
Rudolf-Bednar-Park is a public green space in Vienna's Leopoldstadt district that spans a large area and is shaped by approximately 280 trees oriented toward the Danube. The southern section contains sports facilities including basketball and skating areas, while the northern part offers quieter zones with gardens and pathways.
The park opened in 2008 on the grounds of the former North Station and was named after Rudolf Bednar, who served as chairman of the Leopoldstadt district from 1920 to 2003. This transformation of a former railway site into public parkland marked a significant change in how this neighborhood developed.
The park was designed following a European competition in 2005, and its layout references the nearby Danube through reed gardens and water features that shape its character.
The park gets busy on warm days with athletes and families, with the southern section more crowded than the quieter northern pathways. Choose the time of day that fits your plans, whether you want to play sports or enjoy a calmer walk.
Striking orange poles are scattered throughout the park and incorporate playful elements that attract children and enliven the design. These colored accents provide an interesting contrast to the carefully trimmed flower beds and create a playful feel across the entire space.
