Vallugabahn, Aerial lift in St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria
Vallugabahn is an aerial tramway in St. Anton am Arlberg that rises from 2091 meters to 2645 meters, covering nearly 554 meters of vertical gain. The system has multiple sections and connects with other lifts to move skiers between different slopes and nearby ski areas.
This lift opened in 1954 as a key connection between St. Anton and nearby ski towns such as St. Christoph, Stuben, and Lech. Over time it became central to regional ski infrastructure, allowing separate villages to grow into one large interconnected ski area.
This lift connects several villages and allows skiers to move between different ski areas without getting off, creating a unified winter sports community across the region. It has become a meeting point where people from different towns gather to ski together.
The journey takes about five and a half minutes and carries many passengers per hour, so expect waits during busy times. It is best to ride early in the day or wait for quieter conditions to avoid standing in long lines.
The upper section Vallugabahn II can only be accessed with a certified mountain guide, making it a special experience for adventurous skiers. Regular visitors can use the viewing platform to enjoy the surroundings without tackling the more demanding route.
