Zettenkaiser, Mountain summit in Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Austria.
Zettenkaiser is a mountain in the Wilden Kaiser range that rises to 1968 meters and can be reached from several starting points. Multiple trails climb toward the summit, offering different levels of difficulty and scenic routes through the alpine landscape.
Access to the summit changed significantly when the Kaiserlift cable car was brought back into operation in 2015. This development made the climb much faster and opened the route to a wider range of visitors.
The Riegensteig path to Zettenkaiser maintains its natural state without safety installations or climbing aids, distinguishing it from other routes in Kaisergebirge.
Several mountain huts along the hiking routes offer shelter and food, including the Kaiseralm and Walleralm. Visitors should start early in the day and wear proper hiking boots, as some sections are steep and rocky.
The Riegensteig trail to the summit is an unprotected route with no climbing aids or safety equipment, suitable only for experienced mountaineers. This challenging version offers a raw alpine experience without modern assistance.
