Anton Karg Haus

The Anton Karg Haus stands at 829 meters in elevation within the Kaisergebirge mountains, offering views of both Wilder Kaiser and Zahmer Kaiser peaks.

The municipality of Kufstein transferred the alpine hut to the Kufstein branch in 1882, leading to its opening as Hinterbärenbad refuge in July 1883.

The structure received recognition as a protected heritage site and maintains its status as an important Austrian Alpine Club accommodation in the Tyrol region.

The mountain refuge contains 30 individual beds and 70 communal sleeping spaces, with a separate winter room that accommodates 10 additional guests.

The name Hinterbärenbad originated from brown bears that would cool themselves in the nearby Kaiserbach stream during summer months in past centuries.
