In 1855, Baroness de Kerkhove de Denterghem granted permission to build the hippodrome opposite her Castle of Potegem, establishing a permanent racing facility.
The Great Steeplechase of Flanders takes place annually on the Tuesday following the last Sunday of August, drawing thousands of spectators to this Belgian racing tradition.
The facility accommodates 30,000 visitors and includes multiple viewing areas, betting facilities, and amenities spread throughout the racing complex.
The Gaverbeek stream forms a natural obstacle within the racing course, creating challenging jumps for horses during steeplechase competitions.
