Kasteel van Potegem, Neo-baroque castle in Waregem, Belgium
The Kasteel van Potegem stands within a double moat system and features a curved bridge connecting it to the surrounding parkland.
The castle's first recorded mention dates to 964 when Count Arnulf I of Flanders granted the property to Saint Peter's Abbey of Ghent.
During medieval times, the Lords of Potegem held significant judicial powers, including capital punishment rights, in their administrative region.
The castle sits on a 17,962 square meter property opposite the Waregem Hippodrome, bordered by the Gaverbeek river on two sides.
The castle transformed from a medieval fortress to a boys' boarding school in 1830 before architect Viérin redesigned it in neo-baroque style in 1930.
