Mariapark, Public park in Lommel-Werkplaatsen, Belgium.
Mariapark is a religiously themed park in Lommel spanning approximately 14,000 square meters, with walking paths and green spaces interspersed throughout. The grounds feature multiple concrete religious monuments and chapels positioned to create a structured spiritual landscape.
The site was established in 1925 when Capuchin friars built a monastery and school as a spiritual center. By 1927, a Lourdes grotto was constructed, expanding the religious character of the grounds.
The park holds seven chapels dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary, each decorated with white-painted bas-reliefs in reinforced concrete. These religious structures shape how visitors experience the space and reflect the role of Marian devotion in the local community.
The park is accessible year-round with parking available near the main entrance and convenient bus stops for those arriving by public transport. The site can be easily explored on foot with clear walking paths throughout the grounds.
One notable feature is the constructed Calvary Hill, where sand was manually moved to create an elevation for the religious monument. This labor-intensive construction reveals the hands-on dedication of the site's early builders.
