The village with its colorful house roofs and narrow winding streets centers around two groups of hot mineral springs, with the Miroto springs containing around 17 hot springs with temperatures near 42 degrees Celsius.
The area was inhabited during Roman times, as evidenced by archaeological remains of ancient baths. The village itself was first recorded in Ottoman documents around the 1490s as a Christian settlement and carried the name Fotovishta until 1934.
The village name derives from Saint John, a venerated protector in the region. Local crafts like weaving and pottery remain active, especially during community festivals where residents gather to share music, dancing, and homemade food.
The village is easy to reach by car and sits about three kilometers north of Garmen. Visitors find simple accommodations in local guesthouses and small inns, offering an authentic glimpse into village life.
The mineral springs here were used during Roman times, with archaeological finds showing ancient bathing facilities once existed. Visitors today can bathe in the same warm waters that have drawn people for centuries.
