Ognyanovo Reservoir, stuwmeer in Bulgarije
Ognyanovo Reservoir is a large body of water built along the Lesnovska River in Bulgaria, holding approximately 32 million cubic meters (1,100 million cubic feet). It was constructed to supply water to the region and irrigate surrounding farmland, making it one of the country's thirty most important reservoirs.
The reservoir was built to meet the water needs of the Kremikovtsi industrial facility and surrounding agriculture. Before construction, a road connected the villages of Ognyanovo and Golema Rakhovitsa, now submerged underwater, with only its beginning still visible above the waterline.
The area is accessible by car and offers spaces for camping and fishing along the shore. Bring fishing gear and supplies if planning to spend a full day or night, and note that temperatures can be cool in the mornings and evenings.
Beneath the water surface lies an old road that once connected two villages, now visible only when water levels drop. This submerged path serves as a quiet reminder of the landscape that existed before the reservoir was built.
