Propada Sanctuary

The Propada Sanctuary contains multiple stone structures arranged in geometric patterns across an elevated location in the Bulgarian landscape near Buzovgrad. These formations include various types of stonework that span different construction methods and purposes across the centuries.

The sanctuary began as a ceremonial center during the Neolithic period and continued to be used through successive historical eras. Archaeological discoveries show how it remained significant for the communities that inhabited and visited this location.

The stone formations feature a square opening aligned with solar movements during solstices, revealing how ancient Thracian people understood the sky. Visitors can observe these alignments themselves while walking through the space and sensing the connection between the stones and celestial cycles.

The site connects to an ecological pathway system established in 2014 that offers designated walking routes through the area. These trails help visitors navigate the formations while learning about the history and significance of the place.

Archaeological excavations uncovered a Thracian vault containing ancient fireplaces used for religious rituals. This discovery provides rare insight into how people performed ceremonies and practiced their beliefs at this location.
