Demirköy Foundry

Demirköy Foundry is an archaeological site built across two levels with stone walls, bastions, and a mosque in the upper courtyard area. The layout reveals how water, workers, and furnaces were arranged to produce metal items systematically.

The foundry was established to produce metal ammunition for military campaigns and operated for several hundred years. Russian forces destroyed the installation during a conflict in the 1800s.

The site reveals how metalworkers organized their craft and structured the space for production needs. Water powered the bellows while artisans used molds to shape copper and other materials into finished pieces.

The ruins are located outside the town and require personal transportation to reach from nearby areas. The ground is uneven in places, so wear appropriate footwear for walking through the archaeological remains.

Excavations uncovered a secondary workshop with two melting furnaces located several hundred meters from the main facility. This separate area demonstrates how production extended across a wider landscape than the visible ruins suggest.
