Silistar, Protected beach in Tsarevo Municipality, Bulgaria.
Silistar is a protected coastal area along the Black Sea that stretches for about one kilometer with soft sand and clear waters. The site features forest vegetation that extends all the way down to the shoreline.
The site was designated as a protected area in 1992 by Bulgaria's Ministry of Environment and incorporated into the Strandzha Nature Park system. This protection represented a shift from previous agricultural use toward nature conservation.
The land underwent changes from traditional agricultural use with pig farms during the socialist period to its current status as a natural reserve.
Access to the beach is via a dirt road leading to a parking area where visitors find basic facilities like tent rentals and a small shop. The remote location near the southernmost Bulgarian coast means it is safest to visit during daylight hours.
The reserve sits right at the Turkish border and marks Bulgaria's southernmost coastal point with intact vegetation. This location makes it a rare spot where you can actually see the international boundary from the beach itself.
