Burgas is an administrative region on the Black Sea coast in southeastern Bulgaria spanning approximately 7,750 square kilometers. It comprises thirteen municipalities and numerous coastal settlements alongside agricultural areas in the interior.
The region received its current administrative structure during Bulgaria's territorial reform in the late 1990s. Officially established as a separate administrative unit in 1999, it has remained a key part of regional governance since then.
The name refers to the coastal city that serves as the economic and cultural hub of the region. Both visitors and residents use the area for beach outings and exploration of inland villages, where traditional markets and local customs shape everyday life.
