Transfiguration Church, Navahrudak, Catholic church in Navahrudak, Belarus
The Transfiguration Church is a place of worship in Navahrudak that blends Gothic and Baroque design from different periods. Two prominent towers anchor the main facade, and the structure shows layers from its medieval roots to later reconstructions.
The church was founded in 1395 under Grand Duke Vytautas on ground that had long held religious significance. Later, between 1712 and 1740, a major reconstruction reshaped the building and gave it much of its current form.
The church stands at a location used for religious ceremonies for centuries and shapes the townscape of Navahrudak. It represents the Catholic tradition of the region and shows how faith and architecture intertwine across generations.
The building is open to the public as an active place of worship where regular services take place. Visitors should be prepared for the possibility of limited access during services and should dress respectfully.
Four skilled stonemasons from the region worked on reconstructing the building and left their craft mark on it. Their names and work between 1712 and 1740 are recorded to this day, keeping alive the memory of local building skill.
