Yob Wildlife Reserve, Wildlife reserve in Northern Red Sea and Anseba regions, Eritrea
The Yob Wildlife Reserve is a protected area in northern Eritrea that covers flat plains and hilly terrain with scattered vegetation. It serves as home to Nubian ibexes, antelopes, and other wildlife adapted to the arid landscape.
The reserve was established in 1959 to protect the Nubian ibex populations already present in the region. This early conservation effort helped secure habitats for vulnerable wildlife species.
The Wildlife Conservation Department of the Eritrean Ministry of Agriculture manages this protected area, reflecting national commitment to environmental preservation.
Access to the reserve is mainly from the town of Nakfa, where visitors should expect basic facilities. Traveling with a local guide is helpful for navigating the terrain and spotting wildlife.
The site is one of the last strongholds for wild Nubian ibexes in the region. These animals are notably difficult to spot as they inhabit steep rocky canyons far from easy paths.
