Palacio de Montehermoso, Renaissance palace in Alde Zaharra district, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
Palacio de Montehermoso is a Renaissance palace in the Alde Zaharra district with two stories and an interior courtyard featuring basket-arch details. The facade combines Gothic and Renaissance design elements, created by architect Fausto Íñiguez de Betolaza.
Construction began in 1524 when Royal Council member Hortuño Ibáñez de Aguirre commissioned the building. The name comes from a Marquis title granted to María Antonia de Salcedo in 1714.
Today it functions as a center for contemporary art with regular exhibitions, workshops, and sound performances open to the public. Visitors experience how the space engages with modern artistic creation and hosts cultural events throughout the year.
The location is accessible within the Alde Zaharra district and easy to reach on foot. Check ahead for current exhibitions or events to plan your visit timing.
The structure incorporates the former Water Deposit of Vitoria into its footprint, now repurposed for modern art installations. This transformation shows how historical elements were adapted to serve contemporary creative needs.
