Betanzos

The town rests at an elevation of 36 meters, with narrow granite streets leading to a central square where local vendors sell Galician products.

Originally established as the Roman settlement of Brigantium, Betanzos later became one of the seven provincial capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia.

Three Gothic churches dominate the landscape: Santiago, Santa María do Azogue, and San Francisco, each displaying distinct architectural elements from the medieval period.

The Tourist Office provides maps and guidance for visitors exploring the old quarter, churches, historic palaces, and the 16th-century clock tower.

During the August San Roque festival, residents launch a large paper balloon into the sky and organize decorated boat processions along the Mandeo river.
