Igrexa de San Francisco de Betanzos

The Igrexa de San Francisco stands near the center of Betanzos with a stone facade and pointed arches characteristic of medieval religious architecture.

Built in 1387 by order of Count Fernán Pérez de Andrade, this church represents one of the most substantial religious constructions in medieval Galicia.

The interior of the church contains numerous stone tombs of regional nobility, including an elaborate sarcophagus depicting hunting scenes from the 14th century.

Visitors can access the church through its main entrance on Rúa San Francisco, with regular visiting hours during mornings and afternoons except during religious services.

The church features a collection of carved stone animals at its base, including a wild boar and a bear, which served as the personal emblems of its founder.
