Puente del Pedrido, Road bridge between Bergondo and Paderne municipalities, Spain.
The Puente del Pedrido is a road bridge that connects Bergondo and Paderne municipalities across the Betanzos estuary. It features multiple concrete arches with a cable-stayed central section spanning the water.
The bridge was designed by engineers Eduardo Torroja Miret and César Villalba Granda and opened in 1943. Its construction had been halted during the Spanish Civil War before work resumed.
The bridge's name comes from an old ferry house that once stood at this location before construction began. Today it serves as an everyday crossing for people who travel between the two municipalities.
The bridge carries vehicle traffic on road AC-164 with a roadway about 5.5 meters wide for regular use. Pedestrians can cross it as well, though exercise caution during rainy or windy conditions.
The structure combines three different engineering systems within a single crossing to handle the varying water conditions of the estuary. This mixed approach demonstrates how the designers adapted their solution to the local environment.
