Armilla, municipality of Spain
Armilla is a municipality in Granada Province in Andalusia, located just a few kilometers southwest of the city of Granada. The town center is marked by a mix of modern residential buildings and older structures, while transportation hubs and shopping centers like Albán structure daily life.
Armilla was historically an area of fertile farmland for tobacco cultivation in the Vega de Granada before rapid growth in the 20th century. The transformation from an agricultural settlement to a densely populated suburb occurred between the 1970s and 2015, when the population more than doubled.
The name Armilla comes from Arabic and means "bracelet," reflecting the Moorish heritage of the region. The town maintains a strong sense of community where neighbors know each other, and local traditions are lived out in residential areas like San Antón, where small shops and cafés shape daily life.
The Metropolitano de Granada connects the town with three stops, making accessibility easy for visitors arriving without a car. Armilla has a well-developed network of shops, restaurants, and services offered at more affordable prices than in nearby Granada.
The town hosts an active Air Force base that serves as a training center for helicopter pilots and regularly generates flight activity in the area. Armilla is also home to a health research park and a school dedicated to animal nutrition, bringing local economic innovation beyond traditional boundaries.
