Estellencs, Mountain village in Serra de Tramuntana, Mallorca, Spain.
Estellencs is a mountain village in the Serra de Tramuntana with stone houses topped by terracotta tiles nestled along steep hillsides. The settlement spreads between the Mediterranean Sea below and high mountain peaks, sitting at roughly 154 meters elevation.
The settlement developed as an agricultural community and gained a defensive tower called Tem Alemany in the 16th century to ward off pirate raids from coastal attackers. This fortification shows how farming communities in the mountains needed protection during that era.
The Church of San Joan Baptista with its white façade and simple bell tower anchors village life, serving as a gathering place during local celebrations and religious observances.
The village has limited shops including a small general store and several restaurants with local food, so plan accordingly for what you might need. The streets are narrow and steep, making it best to explore on foot, while arriving from nearby towns like Andratx is straightforward by road.
The village is home to only about 318 residents, making it the least populated municipality on the island. This small population allows traditional farming practices and mountain village life to continue much as they did in earlier times.
