Cercanías Madrid, Regional rail network in Community of Madrid, Spain.
Cercanías Madrid is a commuter rail network in the Community of Madrid connecting the capital with towns such as Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez, and Guadalajara through eleven lines. The network includes 89 stations and spans approximately 370 kilometers (230 miles) across the region.
The system was launched in 1990 to connect suburbs with the city center and meet growing commuter demand. Over the years, new lines were added and existing routes expanded to reach more communities around Madrid.
The train lines link numerous neighborhoods, enabling residents to access theaters, museums, markets, and entertainment venues throughout the Community of Madrid region.
Trains run from early morning until midnight with intervals of about 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the line and time of day. Many stations offer connections to the Metro, making it easy to transfer within the city and region.
Two lines run directly to Madrid-Barajas Airport, providing a quick connection between the airport and the city center. Major hubs like Atocha, Chamartín, Sol, and Nuevos Ministerios allow transfers between multiple lines and other transport modes.
