Spain inaugurated this memorial in July 2020 to honor over 28,000 citizens who died during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The memorial serves as a central location where families gather to place white roses and hold remembrance ceremonies for their departed relatives.
Visitors can reach the monument via Metro station Opera or through numerous bus lines that stop near the Royal Palace.
European Union leaders, including Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, attended the inauguration alongside Spanish King Felipe VI.
