La Latina, Metro station in La Latina neighborhood, Centro, Madrid
La Latina is a metro station on Line 5 of the Madrid Metro, located underground in the La Latina neighborhood of Centro, Madrid. It has two tracks, two platforms, and three street-level entrances all situated along Calle de Toledo.
The station opened on June 6, 1968, as part of the first section of Line 5 linking Callao to Carabanchel. It was built during a period when Madrid was expanding its metro network to connect its growing neighborhoods.
The station takes its name from the surrounding neighborhood, one of the oldest parts of Madrid. Stepping out, visitors find themselves among narrow streets lined with small shops and tapas bars that fill up in the evenings.
The station has no elevators or ramps, so travelers with mobility challenges should plan their visit accordingly. All three exits open onto Calle de Toledo, which makes it easy to get your bearings once you reach street level.
The station sits about 28 meters below street level, which makes it one of the deeper stops on Line 5. Riders notice this when descending, as the escalators are considerably longer than at most other stations on the same line.
