Usera, Multicultural district in southern Madrid, Spain
Usera is a district in southern Madrid that spreads along the southern bank of the Manzanares River. It is divided into seven wards, including Orcasitas, Orcasur, San Fermín, and Almendrales, each containing residential and commercial areas.
The district grew rapidly during the 1960s when migrants from rural Spain established commercial and service businesses there. This early development set the foundation for the diverse economy and population mix that exists today.
A large Chinese community makes this neighborhood its home, filling the streets with authentic restaurants, shops, and festivals celebrated throughout the year. The cultural presence shapes daily life and is visible in storefronts, signs, and gatherings.
The neighborhood has good connections to central Madrid through two commuter train stations on the C-5 line and access to three metro lines with regular service. These transport options make it easy to explore the district and reach surrounding areas.
Pradolongo Park, located in the district, contains a botanical garden and lake and hosts Chinese New Year celebrations. The park offers visitors a quiet retreat within the vibrant urban setting.
