Dragonera, Natural park islet in Andratx, Spain
Dragonera is an islet off the coast of Andratx with steep cliffs rising about 353 meters above sea level. The terrain spans several kilometers and features numerous hiking paths with three prominent lighthouses throughout the island.
The Romans left early marks with a necropolis in the Es Lladó area. In the Middle Ages, the island served as a defensive post against pirates who threatened the coasts at that time.
The name comes from the dragon-like shape visible from different viewing points around the island. The rocky landscape is home to a local lizard species found nowhere else in the world.
Regular boat services run from Sant Elm and Port d'Andratx to the island. Four marked hiking paths allow visitors to explore the terrain through different routes.
The waters around the island contain extensive seagrass meadows that provide habitat for many Mediterranean fish and form an important underwater ecosystem. This underwater landscape is particularly interesting for divers and snorkelers.
