Palace of Moncloa, Official residence in Moncloa-Aravaca district, Madrid, Spain
The Palace of Moncloa is a government residence in the Moncloa-Aravaca district of Madrid, Spain. The expansive grounds include several buildings, among them spaces for ministerial meetings and areas designated for press activities.
A nobleman transformed the agricultural estate into a residential complex in 1660. After the civil war, an architect reconstructed the buildings between 1949 and 1953.
The name Moncloa comes from an old agricultural estate once owned by Spanish nobility. Today the grounds host official meetings and serve as a venue for government press conferences.
The complex sits near Ciudad Universitaria and can be reached via Metro Line 6. Several bus routes also stop in the area, connecting the district with other parts of the city.
A separate building from the 1950s houses the personal cabinet of the Prime Minister. Artworks from the Reina Sofía Museum decorate some of the interior rooms.
