San Blas-Canillejas

San Blas-Canillejas is an administrative district in eastern Madrid composed of eight neighborhoods: Amposta, Arcos, Canillejas, Hellín, Rejas, Rosas, Salvador, and Simancas. The area blends older buildings from the original Canillejas settlement with modern residential developments and green spaces.

Canillejas functioned as an independent municipality until 1949, when it merged with the expanding city of Madrid. This integration shaped the development of the current district and its neighborhoods.

Each of the eight neighborhoods develops its own character through local events and community spaces where residents gather. This variety creates distinct social environments across the district.

The district offers good public transportation links that make traveling to central Madrid straightforward. Green spaces and neighborhood facilities are distributed throughout the area for easy access.

The district displays an interesting contrast between older structures from the Canillejas era and modern expansions that developed over decades. This layering of building styles documents different phases of Madrid's urban growth.
