Tena Valley, Mountain valley in Alto Gállego, Spain.
Tena Valley is a mountain corridor in the southern Pyrenees with granite peaks that rise above 3000 meters in elevation. The valley stretches roughly 40 kilometers and contains several villages, ski areas, and thermal springs throughout its length.
The thermal baths of Panticosa were used as far back as Roman times for their healing waters and mineral properties. This long history of use shows how the valley has drawn people for centuries seeking the natural springs.
The villages scattered throughout the valley show traditional stonework and slate roofs that reflect local building methods passed down through generations. These construction techniques remain visible in homes and structures you walk past today, giving the area its distinctive character.
Winter sports are available from December through March at two major ski resorts with over 130 kilometers of slopes combined. The rest of the year, visitors can hike, visit thermal baths, or enjoy water activities on the reservoir.
The Lanuza reservoir was created by a dam and now offers water sports in the middle of mountain surroundings. The location regularly hosts the South Pyrenees Festival, bringing live music performances that enliven the valley during summer months.
