Casa-museo de Unamuno, Literary museum in historic center, Salamanca, Spain
Casa-museo de Unamuno is a historic residence in Salamanca where the Spanish writer and thinker Miguel de Unamuno lived during his years as an academic leader. The three-story building preserves his living quarters, a substantial personal library, and work spaces that reveal how this major intellectual organized his daily life.
This residence was Unamuno's home when he held leadership at the University of Salamanca in the early 1900s, a period when he exerted major influence on Spanish intellectual thought. The house became a center where important academic and philosophical discussions took place.
The home displays furnishings and belongings that reflect how Unamuno lived and thought within these walls. Walking through the rooms, visitors can sense the intellectual environment he created for his daily work and reflection.
The museum opens on weekdays and allows visitors to explore the rooms at their own pace or join guided tours. It sits within walking distance in the old town, near other sites worth seeing.
The home contains around 6000 books from Unamuno's personal collection, many bearing his handwritten notes in the margins. These markings show how he read and critically engaged with the works of other thinkers.
