Palacio de Anaya, Neoclassical palace and university building in Salamanca, Spain

The Palacio de Anaya is a neoclassical building with four Ionic columns at its entrance and a triangular pediment topped by the family coat of arms. Inside, a courtyard is surrounded by harmoniously proportioned spaces.

Construction began in 1760 to replace a damaged college building on the same site. The earlier structure had suffered serious harm from natural disasters in the previous century.

The interior walls display traditional inscriptions celebrating doctoral graduates of the university. These handwritten marks are a distinctive feature of the academic life that took place here.

The building houses the Faculty of Philology and the courtyard is freely accessible on weekdays during the academic term. Check in advance as opening times may change depending on the university calendar.

Inside there is a bronze bust of a prominent 20th-century Spanish writer created by a renowned sculptor. This sculpture on the main staircase is a significant work of art honoring a thinker closely associated with the university.
