Pasarela del Voluntariado, Bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Zaragoza, Spain.
The Pasarela del Voluntariado is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge spanning about 277 meters across the Ebro River, linking the La Almozara and Actur neighborhoods on both banks. Its design features a curved metallic structure supported by an angled central mast.
This bridge was built for the 2008 World Expo in Zaragoza as part of the city's infrastructure upgrades for the international event. It emerged directly from the preparation work for the exhibition.
The name comes from the volunteers who helped Zaragoza prepare for the 2008 World Expo. It honors their work in making the event possible for the city.
The bridge offers a wide path with anti-slip surfaces and steel railings for safety on both sides. It can feel noticeably flexible on windy days, especially in the higher sections near the central mast.
The bridge features a central mast tilted at about a 30-degree angle, giving it a distinctive silhouette. This tilt serves both design purposes and structural needs to distribute the weight across the span.
