Puente Euskalduna, Steel and concrete bridge in Bilbao, Spain
Puente Euskalduna is a 250-meter-long crossing of steel and concrete that spans the Nervion River and links the Deusto and Sacred Heart areas of the city. It provides separate pathways for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles.
The bridge opened in 1997 on the site where Euskalduna shipyards once operated until they closed in the 1980s. This construction marked the transformation of an industrial waterfront into a modern urban space.
The bridge shares the waterfront with the Euskalduna Palace, a major venue for concerts and conferences that draws visitors year-round. Together they have transformed this part of the city into a cultural hub for local residents and travelers alike.
The bridge is easy to cross on foot or by bicycle with wide, flat walkways on both sides. Nearby metro stations at San Mamés and Deusto provide convenient access for visitors without a car.
A 45-meter lighting tower stands at the center of the bridge with spiral staircases circling its base for pedestrian access to the top. This striking feature becomes especially visible at night when the lights activate.
