Edificio El Tigre, Industrial structure in Deusto, Bilbao, Spain
Edificio El Tigre is a building with an L-shaped plan and concrete structure located along the Bilbao Estuary waterfront in the Deusto district. It comprises five floors plus ground level and has been converted into a residential complex with restored facades.
Architect Pedro Ispizua designed the building in 1941 for the Correas El Tigre company during Spain's post-war industrial reconstruction period. The project reflected the revival of manufacturing in Bilbao after the Spanish Civil War.
The concrete tiger sculpture mounted on the corner turret was created in 1942 and has become a symbol of the district's industrial past. Visitors notice this artwork as a reminder of the area's identity as a working neighborhood.
The building stands at the intersection of Rafael Ibarra and Botica Vieja streets and is easy to locate. It is best approached on foot to appreciate the riverfront location and the architectural details of the surrounding area.
The building displays two distinct architectural expressions depending on which side you view it from: administrative offices designed for the Botica Vieja street and industrial spaces facing the side street. This duality reflects how a factory combined office and production functions in a single structure.
