Santa y Real Casa de la Misercordia, Historic charitable institution in Bilbao, Spain.
The Santa y Real Casa de la Misericordia occupies 26,600 square meters, with 16,600 square meters dedicated to exterior gardens with paved paths and night lighting.
Founded in 1774, this neoclassical building with neobaroque elements was designed by architect Antonio de Goicoechea and moved to its current location in 1872.
The Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul have managed this institution since 1880, representing a long tradition of care for Bilbao residents.
The residence currently maintains 237 places for elderly care, with 150 spots arranged through agreements with the Provincial Council of Biscay.
The chapel houses a shrine to Saint Mammes, who according to legend tamed lions, connecting the institution to the nearby football stadium bearing the same name.
