Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, Contemporary art museum in central Málaga, Spain
The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga occupies a former market building in the city center, with approximately 6000 square meters of exhibition and education spaces spread across two floors. The interior layout accommodates paintings, sculptures, and multimedia works in flexible gallery configurations.
The center opened in 2003 following the model of German Kunsthalle institutions dedicated to contemporary art. This established Málaga as a destination for modern artistic expression.
The collection presents approximately 400 artworks from private collections, focusing on North American artists from the 1960s and beyond. Visitors encounter works that show how contemporary art developed and continues to evolve through the decades.
The building is centrally located and easily accessible on foot, with clear signage at entrances and information desks in the foyer. The spaces are wheelchair accessible, and guided tours are regularly offered alongside free admission to all exhibitions and programs.
The center is housed in a former market building whose industrial past remains visible in the architecture and spatial design. This transformation shows how abandoned commercial spaces can find new purpose in cultural life.
