Lucentum

Lucentum sits on the Tossal de Manises hilltop and contains the remains of an ancient Roman city. Visitors can see the foundations of homes, bathhouses, a marketplace, and fortification walls that outline the original settlement.

The settlement started as an Iberian village and later became an important Roman city in ancient times. It served as a major trading hub along the Mediterranean coast, connecting different regions through commerce.

The excavated structures reveal how Romans organized their cities, with public baths, a marketplace, homes, and defensive walls arranged throughout. These remains show how daily life unfolded in an ancient Mediterranean settlement.

The site sits on a hilltop with good views, but sturdy footwear is recommended for walking across uneven ground. A visit works best if you have time to move slowly through the different sections of the ruins.

The ruins are surrounded by a defensive wall ring about 600 meters long that nearly completes the original city perimeter. This wall system helps visitors understand exactly where the Roman settlement ended.
