Arlobi menhir, Prehistoric menhir in Gorbea Natural Park, Zuia, Spain.
Menhir de Arlobi is a sandstone monolith located within a nature reserve in the Basque region. The four-meter-tall structure has a rectangular shape and consists of three fragments that were reassembled together.
The monument was discovered in the early 2000s and dates back about 4,000 years. It is one of the few standing stones from this period found in this area.
The stone stands out in a region where dolmens are the more common form of prehistoric monuments. Its presence shows that different types of stone structures were built by people in this area at the same time.
The site sits on a marked path within the nature park and is reachable on foot. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for changing weather depending on the season.
Excavations at the site uncovered over 200 artifact fragments, showing that the stone was surrounded by ritual or ceremonial activity. A ring of stones around the base of the structure suggests that people used this place for special occasions.
