Corta Atalaya, Open-pit copper mine in Minas de Riotinto, Spain.

The mine extends 1,200 meters in length, 900 meters in width, and reaches a depth of 350 meters into the earth.

Mining operations at Corta Atalaya commenced in 1907 following ground instability caused by pyrite combustion in earlier underground mines.

The construction of La Atalaya village in 1883 provided miners with housing, schools, shops, and community facilities for their families.

Current mining activities at Riotinto produce over 50,000 tons of copper annually through advanced extraction techniques and environmental protocols.

The former mine's distinctive landscape serves as a filming location for various media productions, featuring its terraced walls and mineral-colored surfaces.

Location: Minas de Riotinto
